HOBBIES & CRAFTS:
I've been crafting most of my life, I've had too many hobbies to
count, just trying to find one thing I enjoy consistently. It seems
I like to jump from one thing to the other or find a way to use them
together.
I like sewing, knitting, crocheting. I like woodworking of all
kinds, I make beaded jewelry, pottery. I like to draw and paint.
Photography if I were able to push the button at the right time, but
it seems I don't. So, I went to video. I enjoy editing pictures with
a program called Corel PaintShopPro and will add some examples here.
Right now, I'm making earrings and necklaces with beads and bird
feathers. The feathers are naturally molted by my parrots, Boo, a
Scarlet Macaw, Miller, a Military Macaw, Loopie, a Mexican Redheaded
Amazon, Oatie, a Quaker Parrot and two Parakeets, Motley and Libby.
They molt twice a year so there are plenty of feathers around here.
I gather, wash and work them into the jewelry designs. You can see
them on the
Art & Jewelry
page.
I have a lot of links to sites with good instructions for crafts and
some of my own I will be adding to this page.
WRITING:
Writing poems, songs, short
stories or novels, it's always fun. Here are a couple of books
written and illustrated by an adorable little seven year old girl, Emma;
Christmas Break
Dinosaurs
It just goes to show you - anyone
can write a book!
PAPER CRAFTS:
Mirkwood Designs has a lot of very
nice templates for cards, boxes and envelopes. I've used several and
they worked out fine.
WOODWORKING:
Projects
and Plans at
Craftsmanspace, here's a link to
their page with plans for the Bog Chair, I need to make about 10 of
these!
Stans Plans has easy to follow free
plans for a lot of nice furniture, toys, etc. I made this
Mission Style Trash Can and use
plastic handle bags (like you get at the grocery store) in them by
hanging the handles over the slats - perfect!
GENEALOGY:
This is one
of my passions. I became interested in 2000 but didn't really
get started until a couple of years later. My family didn't really
talk about relatives much so it came as a big surprise that my
paternal grandfather had 7 sisters and 2 brothers. It's an
interesting journey. I'm working on several things right now
that will go in this catagory, I'll have to link it over to
different sites I'm working on. Soon, very soon!
PHOTOGRAPHY:
I
accidentally deleted all the pictures off my SD card from my camera.
I thought I had copied them to my computer, but when I searched for
them they weren't there. I had heard that there was software for
that, so I went to CNET
download.com and found this one.
Recuva is a free download, easy to
use and I was able to recover all the pictures I thought I had lost.
Can't beat that!
GARDENING:Who doesn't love flowers, especially in early
spring. With the right planting of bulbs and plants, you can have flowers
on into fall. I buy a lot of bulbs from Breck's.
The Collections are nice and I take full advantage of their
How-To and Landscaping info.
