ADVICE:
Advice is a funny thing. Good advice can make your life better if
you follow it. Bad advice can only make things worse. How do you
know the difference?
I'm afraid knowing what advice to follow and what not to follow is
totally up to you.
One thing I've learned is, it depends on who you're getting the
advice from. If it's someone too close to you, they tend to agree
with your opinion of what you should do instead of looking at it
objectively. Which can lead to bad advice.
Never go to someone who will most likely have their own agenda.
Their advice will benefit them, not you.
I like the hit and miss angle. I ask a few different people what
they would do in the same situation. I ponder what usually is three
different answers. I write what I would like to do, what I think I
should do and what other people say they would do. Then I leave it
for a few days. If the problem hasn't resolved it's self in that
time, I go back to what I wrote and can decide then.
Most of the time just writing down your frustrations will give you
time to make the right choice. In the end, you can take your own
advice which is the best for you anyway.
Here are some tidbits of advice from this site Good Advice for a
Happy Life I know we've all seen these before in the many forwarded
emails we get from friends who enjoy doing such things. This is more
for humor than to follow but some are actually good advice. You be
the judge.
Give people more than they expect and do it cheerfully.
Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, their
conversational skills will be as important as any other.
Don’t believe all you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you
want.
When you say, ‘I love you,’ mean it.
When you say, ‘I’m sorry,’ look the person in the eye.
Be engaged at least six months before you get married.
Believe in love at first sight.
Never laugh at anyone’s dreams. People who don’t have dreams don’t
have much.
Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it’s the only
way to live life completely.
In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.
Don’t judge people by their relatives.
Talk slowly but think quickly.
When someone asks you a question you don’t want to answer, smile and
ask, ‘Why do you want to know?’
Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
Say ‘bless you’ when you hear someone sneeze.
When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
Remember the three R’s: Respect for self; Respect for others; and
Responsibility for all your actions.
Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to
correct it.
Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your
voice.
Spend some time alone.
My own personal list of advice for a happy life goes something like
this…
…only make decisions when you are in an emotionally neutral space.
…be thoughtful of other people’s feelings when you are providing
feedback.
…tell the truth, no matter how difficult it might seem at the time!
…integrity is something that only you can decide if you possess or
not.
…be accepting of other people’s lifestyle choices.
…do NOT pass judgement and label someone as anything…such as stupid,
weak, bad, ugly, lazy etc.
…know that our greatest power is to change our attitude.
…all people are doing the best they know how to.
…to let go when you know you’ve done the best you can possibly do.
…have faith in your abilities, common sense, skills, wisdom, courage
and vision for the future.
…you can be anything you want to be by making conscious choices each
step of the way.
…it is easier to reach for bigger goals than for smaller ones.
…trust that everything works out for the best.
…be open to even better outcomes than you could have possibly
imagined.
…doing what you enjoy to do for a living, is one of the finest
pleasures in life.
…to forgive is one of the greatest gifts we give ourselves.
…to talk about the unpleasant things that happened in the past, only
serves to keep us there.
…miracles happen all the time – we simply have to recognize them.
…people rarely remember us for what we say, they remember us for how
we make them feel.
…we create our lives with every thought, word and action.
…worry is a prayer for what we don’t want.
…the two most powerful words in the universe are “I am!”
…if you don’t choose your own life experience, your life experience
will choose you.
…people love you for who you are, exactly the way you are- right
now!
…once you set a goal, always take one step towards it’s attainment –
immediately.
…a good leader always takes responsibility – no matter what!
…if you let go of fear, fear let’s go of you.
…one of the benefits of working for no pay, is that you can leave
whenever you want.
…giving people what they want is the best way to do business.
more to come...
